The Issue

Dear members of the Bhutanese Nepali Community of Akron,

Our community is directly impacted when leaders fail in their responsibilities. Where are the resources meant for the community going, there are no programs to support families in their financial struggles, no programs to help push the urgency of preserving our tradition, culture, and language. Instead, the priorities advertised to us are centered almost entirely around sports, leaving many community members without the essential services and accountability they deserve.

The well-being and future of our community is at stake. If things remain the same, funding and donations will continue to go unquestioned, and resources will keep being misused for purposes that do not serve the community. This risks weakening trust within our community, discouraging young people from stepping forward in leadership, and widening the gap between those making decisions and the lives of those affected by them. If change happens, however, we have the chance to reclaim transparency, integrity, and programs that uplift and unite our people in meaningful ways.

Now is the time to act because silence only deepens the problem. The longer we hesitate, the more resources slip away and the harder it becomes to correct this course. Our voices, if raised together, can hold leadership accountable and demand fairness, honesty, and responsibility in how our community is run. This is not only about today’s generation but also about safeguarding the community’s future for those who come after us.
