Hello! Thank you once again for your support on this petition. We are happy to see that Larry Brown has resigned. We will keep pushing for Joel Benz, Kenneth Fries, and Kyle Kerley to be held accountable for the role that they played in this particularly hurtful and insidious moment in Allen County Council history. We are encouraged by your enthusiasm and hope that you will help us as we move our focus on getting the charges dropped against all non-violent protesters since May 31, 2020. As you may know, Allen County Prosecutor Karen Richards has prosecutorial discretion and could drop all charges against the protesters that have been the victims of excessive use of force by FWPD. We have drawn up a longer, open letter to Karen Richards describing the unjust ways protesters have been held and the grounds on which she could easily drop the charges. We mailed that in hard copy today. We have also posted that letter here: https://humanitiesirl.wordpress.com/2020/06/24/an-open-letter-to-allen-county-prosecutor-karen-richards/ You can also find the letter shared on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/FortWayneHumanitiesIRL So what can you do? 1. You can flood Karen Richards’s office with phone calls expressing your thoughts on why the charges should be dropped against protesters. Her number is 260-449-7641. a. Before you call make a quick note of two or three reasons that you can say in under 3-4 minutes about why you think the charges should be dropped. Feel free to use language from the letter above. b. Please call during office hours to exert maximum pressure on the office. 2. You can also send your own letter. While we know that email is convenient, it is also easy to ignore or reroute to folders never be seen or read. Please consider writing a letter and putting it in snail mail (this will have the added benefit of helping out the USPS, which as you know has been suffering under the Trump administration). a. Mail your letters to 602 S. Calhoun Street 3rd Floor Keystone Bldg. Fort Wayne, IN 46802-1715 b. Feel free to use the language of the open letter, but adding your own arguments is important. c. Let her know that you will not relent on your contacts to the office until you see change. Please don’t hesitate to be in contact if you have any questions about the actions here.
