We, the undersigned citizens, wish to draw your attention to a deeply troubling act of nepotism and moral compromise that has shaken public confidence in the fairness and credibility of the Haryana legal system. If the daughter of an IAS is not safe how are daughters of an average Indian supposed to feel safe when the culprits are being rewarded for breaking laws, how is a person who is breaking laws supposed to uphold it.

On 18 July 2025, the Haryana government, led by the BJP under CM Nayab Singh Saini, issued an order appointing Vikas Barala, son of Subhash Barala, as an Assistant Advocate General (AAG), part of a batch of 96‑97 law officers recruited to represent the state in the High Court and Delhi courts

Vikas Barala faces criminal charges in a high‑profile 2017 stalking and attempted abduction case, involving Varnika Kundu, the daughter of a former Haryana IAS officer, in Chandigarh. Charges were framed on 13 October 2017, and Barala spent five months in Burail jail before securing bail in January 2018. The trial is still pending, with the next hearing scheduled for 2 August 2025
