Hello community,

Flamingo Heights 640 Glamping Proposal applicants Robott Land Company (yes, that's really their name) will be at the August 15th 3PM HVCC meeting in Yucca Mesa to announce the latest on their proposal. Please spread the word and let's show up.

Yucca Mesa Community Center located at 3133 Balsa Ave

A gentle reminder, too, if you have pics of wildlife (e.g. Desert Tortoise) in this wildlife corridor, please upload it to https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/fieldSurvey/default.aspx  ASAP.

A big thanks again to Chris Clarke for the episode of his fantastic podcast "90 Miles from Needles" covering the square mile that is up for the gross Flamingo 640 project and fate of the Western Joshua Tree. A great listen if you are still catching up with this project.

The fact that "the California Fish and Game Commission members failed to reach a unanimous decision on whether to grant the western Joshua tree threatened species status on June 16, 2022" (taken from MDLT newsletter, 6.17.22) is really disheartening and makes glamping projects like this more possible. One of the many terrifying facts I learned from tuning into that meeting was that companies are already incorporating the price of cutting down Joshua Trees in their budgets before they even begin a project. Although the meeting was rather painful to watch as politicians lined up to not support placing the Joshua Trees on the threatened species list, it was incredible and hopeful to see Brendan Cummings speak completely from his heart about the fate of the Joshua Tree. So a big shout out to him, too. Thank you for all that y'all do.

Hope to see you on August 15th.
