Our goal was never to destroy an opportunity, it was to hold the developer and powers-that-be accountable. Do it the right way. Follow the correct steps. Listen to the residents. Address the concerns. Be honest. Be transparent.
After 4 long years, thousands of hours of research (yes, it's far from easy but it can be done), 2 irresponsible EIS decisions, 6+ attempts to obtain more information, and 2 rounds with the Court of Appeals (both being "Reversed and Remanded"), the news was released that the developer is dropping the project.
Do we hate motorsports, racing, etc.? NO. NO. And once again, NO. But we don't want to live near it. More importantly, we didn't want to wind up with irreversible damage because the correct steps - as hard or expensive as they may have been - weren't followed.
THANK YOU to all the supporters who followed along on this fight.
THANK YOU to all of those who spoke up, submitted comments, made phone calls, showed up to meetings, gave their expertise, etc.
THANK YOU to all of the supporters who gave us the ability to obtain a lawyer like Marshall Tanick who listened, knows his stuff, and went in front of the judges for us.
THANK YOU to the ones who initially supported the proposed project, but then took the time to understand what it really was and what it meant for them.
THANK YOU to the former mayor of Eagle Lake for being the lone supporter both times an EIS decision was required. Thank you for understanding your role and taking it seriously - with making decisions, asking questions, and taking the time to speak with concerned residents.
