Residents Left to Flood: Stockport Council Ignores Our Pleas for Help

Residents Left to Flood: Stockport Council Ignores Our Pleas for Help
The Issue
The residents of Ludlow Road, Offerton, Stockport need your help. For over five years, we have been living with the severe distress caused by surface water runoff and flooding originating from the Kindling Trust’s land in Woodbank Park. This persistent issue has led to significant damage to our homes, the infrastructure around us, and our sense of security and peace of mind.
Throughout these years, we, the residents, have made countless attempts to raise our concerns. We have repeatedly reached out to Stockport Council, the Liberal Democrat councillors, and our local MP, Lisa Smart, pleading for urgent assistance and action. Yet, despite our ongoing efforts, we have received no meaningful response or support. Instead, we have been met with indifference and inaction.
This issue is not just a matter of inconvenience—it is destroying our homes. The flooding has resulted in damage to the foundations of our properties, disrupted our daily lives, and led to financial and emotional strain for many of us. We have even gone so far as to offer to fund the necessary works ourselves, at no cost to the council, just so we can protect our homes and community. However, even that plea has been ignored.
It is disheartening to feel that our voices are not being heard, especially when we are simply asking for help to stop the damage being done to our homes and our lives. We understand that there are challenges in managing public land and resources, but the sheer disregard for the residents' well-being is unacceptable. The current inaction is threatening not only the material investments we have made in our homes but also the emotional and social bonds we have within our community.
By signing this petition, you are standing with us in our fight to hold Stockport Council, The Kindling Trust, and the Liberal Democrat councillors accountable. We are calling for urgent action to prevent further damage and to ensure that we, as residents, are treated with the respect and urgency we deserve. Your support offers us the hope that our voices will finally be heard, and real, long-lasting solutions will be put in place to address this issue once and for all.
Please sign and share this petition—help us safeguard our homes, protect our community, and ensure that Stockport Council and local councillors do not continue to ignore our cries for help.
