#RescueRuapehu - stand with us in fighting for our communities

The Issue

This petition is to call on New Zealand's electricity 'gentailers' and the Government to stop putting multi-million $$$ profits ahead of communities and NZ's manufacturing sector

At the beginning of August 2024 the continued exponential rise in the wholesale cost of electricity in NZ forced the Ruapehu region's biggest employer Winstone Pulp International to pause work at the Tangiwai Sawmill and the Karioi Pulpmill

Employees and our wider communities of Ohakune, Raetihi, Waiouru and Taihape are reeling and fear, the closure of the sites indefinitely. This is not just 230 jobs on the line but our entire existence as a community.

These 230 kaimahi are our mothers, fathers, brothers and daughters - they are us and we don't want to be forced to leave our whānau, our homes, our towns or even our country to find more work

DON'T CANCEL OUR COMMUNITIES
