Recently, there have been mountain lion sightings in the southwestern part of the City of Omaha, Nebraska. It is unknown if there are several mountain lions or just one. Based on the images, the lion(s) appear young.

If there is one thing that is clear, it’s that the fate of this lion is death for simply being in the city limits of Omaha. The animal will be killed if captured in the city limits. This plan is outlined in Nebraska Game and Parks 20 page “Mountain Lion Response Plan.” The animal has yet to injure a person or animal (none reported at this time). The creature is simply trying to survive in an area that was once its home. Mountain lions are threatened by habit destruction and prey depletion.

The last mountain lion that was caught in the city was found sleeping outside of a city building. The mountain lion was cornered and shot approximately 16 times before dying. Gruesome, traumatizing, and inhumane.
