Reschedule the Super Bowl to preserve Valentine's Day
The Issue
Imagine planning a romantic Valentine's Day, only to find out that your partner is more interested in touchdowns than tender moments. For many sports fans, the Super Bowl is an unmissable event, exciting and communal, where nachos and chicken wings seem to compete with the higher pursuit of romance. This is a reality my husband and I are facing as dedicated followers of the National Football League
My husband's first love is the Denver Broncos. But this year, his second love – me – might find Valentine's Day competing with the drama and excitement of the Super Bowl. If the championship falls on Sunday, February 14, 2027, I will find myself stuck with nachos and chicken wings as a very unromantic dinner.
Valentine's Day and the Super Bowl are both beloved events, each carrying their own tradition and excitement. However, forcing fans to choose between romance and rushing yards isn't fair to relationships or anyone who cherishes both. It becomes a choice between indulging in moments of love and an exhilarating spectacle of sport, which can put strain on even the best of relationships.
A solution would be to shift the Super Bowl to a different weekend. This move would ensure that both festivities receive the undivided attention they deserve. By rescheduling the Super Bowl for February 21, we allow lovers and fans alike to fully engage with each holiday's unique offering without compromise.
Join me in urging the NFL to reconsider its scheduling choices to protect such treasured traditions. We advocate for a memorable day that celebrates the heart, untouched by relegated romance and uninterrupted by game time.
Sign this petition to make Valentine's Day, once again, solely about love – and the Super Bowl solely about the love of the game.
