Require Vehicles to Have Headlight Warning when Driving at Night

Require Vehicles to Have Headlight Warning when Driving at Night
The Issue
With modern cars having daytime running lights and illuminated digital instrumentation, drivers are often unaware that they have not turned on their lights at night. They see a fully-illuminated dashboard and some light projecting in front of their cars, so they think their lights are on. However, because their headlights are not on, the back of their cars are completely dark and from the front they have very dim lights for driving at night.
This petition is to push to make it mandatory for auto makers to include a warning for drivers so they know their headlights are not turned on at night. Since most new cars come with a light sensor to operate the headlights, this could be used in conjunction with updated software to give the driver a warning when they are driving without their headlights when it is dark outside. Something similar to the warning a driver receives when they do not have their seatbelt on.
Since 50% of auto accidents happen at night, providing drivers with a warning system could help reduce the number of accidents during dark driving situations. This seems like it would be a very simple solution with the potential to save lives and prevent numerous accidents. It is surprising this is not already a feature in newer cars.
