Require the State Department to Open DV 2027 Registration
The Issue
As an immigration attorney, I hear from people around the world who are waiting for one simple answer: When will DV-2027 registration finally open?
We finally have a timeline for the next major court update, but thousands of prospective applicants and families are still stuck in limbo.
After the September 24, 2026 hearing, U.S. District Judge Jinsook Ohta said she expects to announce her decision by October 14, 2026.
And I want to make one thing very clear because it matters: October 14 is NOT the DV-2027 registration date.
As of right now, DV-2027 registration is still not open, and the U.S. Department of State has not announced an official registration date.
As an immigration attorney, I see how this uncertainty affects real people. Applicants are trying to determine whether the program will open, when they should prepare, and which information they can trust.
This is bigger than one court case.
People around the world plan their futures around the Diversity Visa program. When there is no clear registration period and no definitive public guidance, confusion grows. And where there is confusion, scammers and people pretending to have inside information can take advantage of applicants who are simply trying to participate in the program legally.
The U.S. Department of State itself warns Diversity Visa applicants about fraudulent websites, emails, and individuals pretending to provide official government information.
No prospective DV applicant should have to guess whether registration has opened, wonder whether a website is legitimate, or pay someone who falsely claims they can register applicants before the official program begins.
That is why this petition asks the U.S. Department of State to provide a clear and official path forward for DV-2027 registration and publicly announce the registration dates through its official government channels.
The pending federal court case is now addressing whether additional action concerning DV-2027 registration is legally required. If the court orders the government to take action, that order should be implemented promptly and transparently so eligible applicants understand exactly what they need to do.
Regardless of the litigation, applicants deserve clear government communication.
They deserve to know:
• Whether DV-2027 registration will open
• The official opening and closing dates
• Where legitimate applications may be submitted
• What eligibility and registration requirements will apply
• How applicants can protect themselves from DV-related scams
I am asking for transparency, clarity, and a process that prospective applicants around the world can actually understand and trust.
