The North London open spaces cafés were to be handed over to new operators on Monday 2 February -- but won't be now, after a lengthy letter was send to the City of London Corporation earlier this week by lawyers instructed by one of the operators, Hoxton Beach. The City agreed to halt the evictions, pending their legal response, after which seven days' notice would be given. This will be a relief not only to Hoxton Beach but everyone who has supported the Real Cafés campaign. Of course the fight is very far from over but our excellent lawyers feel they have an excellent case, even allowing for professional caution. We'd like to thank not only the top rank barristers who are acting without payment ('pro bono') but also our great solicitors TLT who took on the case at a time of year -- the Christmas holiday -- when it's usually impossible to find first rate professionals who will pick up their calls and emails. Thanks to them, to everyone who's given to the crowd funder https://gofund.me/c328dd4af , and to everyone who has signed and circulated this all important petition.
