As a witness to my grandmother's painful battle with cancer, twice, and a trusted friend's struggle with breast cancer at a young age, I understand, firsthand, the critical importance of women's health. In our society, many health issues faced by women stem from products that we are obligated to use. Feminine products, in particular, are essential, and it is unacceptable that we should be worried about their safety.

One industry that urgently needs reform is the tampon industry. Women use 11,000 to 16,000 tampons in their lifetime, in direct contact with their most sensitive areas. The concerning issue is that these products are not strictly regulated for safety. Many contain harmful ingredients, including heavy metals and chemicals. Ingredients such as dioxins, furans, and fragrance have been linked to cancer, reproductive issues, and hormone disruption (Sources: Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, 2019; Women's Voices for the Earth, 2018).

We need to stand against this negligence. We need to steer the tampon industry towards not just profitability, but also consumer safety and health. The health and well-being of women, of all of us, should not be compromised by products that can and should be safe.
