More animal deaths from dryers!!!

Hello everyone! I would first like to say thank you for 400 signatures! When I first started this petition I was expecting my family and friends to sign but I never would’ve thought Sadie’s story would have garnered this much attention. I am so so very blessed and grateful!
With that being said I have not stopped researching dryer deaths and I have accumulated several (13 more to be exact) that are very similar to Sadie’s. This is just the tip of the iceberg and it is sickening to me that nothing has been done. When my mom took Sadie to the vet they said to her “ma’am you would be shocked because this happens all the time” why has nothing been done?

a full day has passed since the morning it happened and I haven’t been able to shake the pure devastation/trauma/guilt of it all. yesterday morning (0820-ish, 21 APR 21) I [19M] was woken up by my dad shouting obscenities in a panicked voice. I thought I was still dreaming, but after hearing him plead with himself over seemingly nonsense he bursted into my room, and woke me out of my half asleep haze that I was caught in.
“[name], Butters is dead!” “He’s fucking dead!” “Fucking Christ!”
hearing my father’s voice crack, seeing this usually stoic, reserved man so visible and audibly broken instantly shook me to my center. he ran back out to the laundry room, and I, a few seconds behind, followed. he was on his knees, head bowed down, holding our cat’s stiff corpse. asking god over and over again for forgiveness and how could this happen.
my mother left the house around 7:30am and before she left she started a routine load of laundry and switched the colors into the dryer. Butters was always curious of what we we’re doing, and just loved being around people in general. he was known to jump in the dryer as we folded laundry pretty regularly; which as I understand how it’s unfair and wrong to blame her for what happened—how did she not see him jump in? my dad wakes up at 8, and after not being able to find our usually clingy cat, he began to search, everywhere. he kept hearing this thud coming from the dryer—but it had just rained the past two days, and it’s not untypical for my mother to dry work boots or a pair of crocs in the dryer to help get off the mud; so he kept searching. until, eventually he had that awful, soul-crushing realization. I can’t even begin to act like I know how horrible that must’ve felt. he found him at around 8:15. that’s when he got me up.
he couldn’t stop crying, and after the fact that I wasn’t having a terrible nightmare settled in, I joined him. he had me keep checking the pulse, and of course, it wasn’t there. he was dead. for those who aren’t familiar with these stories like this, his body was in pretty horrible condition. we didn’t notice til we brought in his body to the vet for cremation, but it was evident that he did not go quickly or peacefully. and that’s what absolute guts me. between seeing my father devastated and seeing my beloved furry best friend lifeless—the pain, the grief is the worst I’ve ever felt. he had me get a trash bag to put Butters in so he didn’t make a mess of his cat carrier when we took him in.
we kept trying to make ourselves feel better by hoping it was quick, but we realized the gravity of it when we looked at him again in the vets office.
[trigger warning for the faint of heart]
his ears were singed from the heat, down to melted skin, void of fur. his face was stiff, scrunched in a position of pure agony and fear. his tongue was clinched so tightly by his teeth that you could see the dry blood in his fur that seeped from the wounds.
he was fucking tortured, and we could’ve saved him. we rescued a cat just to kill it 2 years later.
fuck, man.
me and my dad both ‘lost it’, once again.
it’s the worst pain I’ve ever felt.
I’ve lost my closest cousin to murder, two dogs to old age, and two close friends to accidentally homicide (gang violence) at a very young age.
nothing compares to this. because every other death was quick or painless; peaceful.
my cat left this world alone, scared, in the dark, in agonizing pain for over 20 minutes (that’s the time they usually last for in this horrible horrible accidents), wondering why we weren’t saving him.
and we could’ve atleast saved him if we just double checked.
he usually sleeps in my room, my family and friends refer to him as ‘my’ cat. the night before, I kicked him out of my room, because he wouldn’t stop fucking with my slippers near the foot of my bed. if I just let him sleep in there, he wouldntve been able to be in the laundry room when my mom switched the colors. if I just let him be by me like he wanted... I’d still have my favorite little pal.
the guilt is so fucking bad. I keep thinking about his last moments, how scared he was, how much pain he was in...
it’s the worst. I feel so fucking bad. I can’t think straight anymore, how do you recover from that. how.
I’ll never forget seeing my dad hold his lifeless body in his hands. the way his voice cracked when he shouted “no, no, aw-ww fuck.” his singed ears, that face, the blood.
my family rescued him right before I left for infantry OSUT at fort benning last year. he would’ve been 2 in June.
TL:DR - my cat got trapped in the dryer and died a horrible, long, painful, terrifying death. the night before I could’ve let him stay in my room, and he still would’ve been alive the next morning. I can’t shake this guilt.

I know this almost sounds like a comical post, and that is perhaps the worst thing about this. Let me give you some background information. I am currently home from college for the summer, well, a couple weeks more like, seeing as I am leaving in about 10 days for a vacation with my boyfriend's family, and then moving to D.C. for the summer for an internship. My father killed himself when I was about 2 years old, and my mother is truly one of the strongest people I know, anyone who meets her is overwhelmed by her gentle-heartedness and care towards others. The last year has been pretty hard, as we lost my grandmother ( my mom's mom), and as soon as I came home for Thanksgiving break this past year, our beloved yellow kitty Berlioz got hit by a truck while playing outside. Needless to say, my mom has been through her fair share of shitty things, and is still an incredible person regardless. You see, my mom treats our cats basically as well as children, especially when I am away at school. Berlioz's death absolutely broke mine and my mom's heart, as he was only 3. We couldn't bear the blanket of sadness over our household that came with his absence, and so, within the week I was home for Thanksgiving, we ended up adopting another baby cat, whose name was ironically Jill (my name as well). My mom and I coddled the crap out of Jill, whose name we changed to Brandi. My mom was constantly sending me photos and videos of her and everybody who came over fell in love with Brandi. Last night, my friend and I were hanging out at my kitchen table, and my mom was in the laundry room. All of the sudden I heard her scream, so my friend and I ran over. She was holding Brandi, absolutely hysterical, sobbing, trying to wake her up. Brandi is still pretty tiny, and had snuck into the dryer while my mom was loading it. I cannot get the image of my mom holding her out of my head, and I hate it. My mom exclaimed things like, "What kind of person am I to have done this?" and " Oh, what a terrible way for a little innocent kitten to die." We both just couldn't stop screaming for about 10 minutes, not believing it had happened. Even today, I keep thinking it was a bad dream and am looking for her to jump up on my bed. The worst part is that I heard the loud clanging from the dryer too and just ignored it because it makes noises like that a lot of the time. I know I'm going to have some serious PTSD from this, as animal deaths in movies and stuff have always upset me more than human deaths (kinda messed up, I know). I think it's something to do with their love and innocence and these big machines fucking that up. I am mostly concerned about my mom though. Not only will she be upset by the absence of Brandi while I am gone, but she will be absolutely ridden with grief. We are both sort of spacey people, and I think she is putting the blame on her lack of attention, and worries that people will say things like, "how did you manage to let that happen?" She has no clue how she managed to turn it on without realizing Brandi was inside, and I (and everyone else) keeps telling her how often freak accidents like this happen and that nobody can blame themselves, especially her, because it could've happened to anyone. So, a few main questions here.

A little info about me (19F), my boyfriend (28M) and I live together and have three beloved furkids. Toby (2M, black, domestic short hair cat), Harley (4M, orange tabby cat), and Chaplyn (7M, mutt dog).
Well this morning, our dog had thrown up all over his dog bed after drinking too much water too fast. I cleaned him up, cleaned the floors up, and took the cover off of his dog bed to be washed. Later in the day when I was getting ready for work, I started a small load of laundry including my dog's dog bed cover and his washable diapers. I popped in a laundry pod and closed the door to the washer. I then poured my bleach and fabric softener into the little drawer, closed the drawer and started the washing machine. I got in the shower, got dressed, packed my lunch, and began my normal walk through the house, making sure lights had been shut off and no one had gotten locked in a closet, pantry, or bedroom. I could see Harley and Chaplyn, but I wasn't able to immediately find Toby.
I began to look all around the apartment, checking all of our closets, cabinets, under the bed, under dresser, behind appliances, everywhere and I couldn't find him at all. I opened his food container and began calling his name. Harley and Chaplyn greeted me at the pantry, but still no sign of Toby.
Now the panic has set in. I texted my boyfriend telling him I couldn't find Toby. I continued to look and check everywhere that he could be hinding. The last place I had to look was behind our washer and dryer. After looking behind them both and still not finding him, I decided just to be sure and check inside of the washing machine itself, which had been running for a solid 45 minutes at this point.
The door to the washing machine was locked as it was full of water so I used the flashlight on my phone and what I saw immediately put me in a horrible state of absolute shock and panic. I saw his ears and tail in the washing machine. I tried prying the door open but I couldn't get it to open. I called my boyfriend hysterical and told him what was going on and started to try and break the door off of the washing machine. Finally I pulled with all of my strength and the door opened.
I immediately new he was gone, but I pulled him out of the washing machine and began CPR and mouth to mouth. Praying, crying, screaming "Please, please, please, just come back! I'm so sorry! I'm so so sorry Toby! Please, honey please come back to me!" He was stiff, his eyes were open, and he was not breathing at all. No pulse, all signs of life gone. My sweet baby boy died in a preventable accident. I COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS. He didn't have to die. If I had just paid more attention, if I had just double checked.
Now I'm just heartbroken, feeling unbelievably guilty for killing my own animal. An animal that I love with all of my heart.
I started the washer. I made the decision to start laundry right then.
I never in a million years thought that he would have jumped into the washer or dryer. He's had no interest in them before. I hadn't left the washer unattended. I was standing right there the whole time. He never ones meowed that I heard. He didn't paw at the door.
My poor kitty died scared and in pain and it was my doing. While it was a complete accident, it was still my actions that ended his life.
I don't know that I can ever forgive myself for this.

Begging for forgiveness.
I Killed My Pet Cat! - Folks, I am beyond heartsick. I accidently killed my Pet cat..he jumped in the dryer last night as I was pulling out a wet comforter from the washer and I stuck the comforter in the dryer not knowing he was there. I normally investigate any thumps or spare change in the dryer but this time I walked away thinking the queen sized comforter was just wet and knotted up. About 45 minutes I went back in to look and opened the dryer and pulled out the blanket..at first I thought a neck massager must have gone through the wash and dryer but then his dead body rolled out.
I am surprised the police weren't called as I yelled bloody murder for at least 5 minutes, trying to administer mouth to mouth and message his little heart. I buried him this morning and I am full of 'woulda coulda should' thoughts but nothing will bring this 2 yo cat which I witnessed being born..back to me. Please pray for me and my Cat 'Rummy". I hope he didn't suffer but articles i have read say stroke is immediate while others say he may have lasted 20 minutes or so. I am so sad
Bottomless Pit Of Unexpected Devastating Losses - I don't know where to begin . . . Last Friday our one year old fluffy grey and white kitten April jumped in the dryer while my back was turned taking a large grey blanket out of the washer and put it in the dryer. I accidentally killed her. I didn't double check the dryer because I did not even realize that she was in the laundry room with me. Our pets bring my family the unconditional love that we need and I just cannot understand why we have to endure these losses. I feel so guilty for not checking the dryer. I don't know if I will ever come to terms with the loss of April especially since it was something that could have been preventable. Writing this out makes me look like a horrible pet owner. I also feel guilty that I didn't have enough money to try and save the other pets. I am lost. I am still in shock and the tears are unending. How do you come to terms with knowing that the family members that cannot speak but show so much love and comfort suffered so much and left us long before they should have.
My Wonderful Cat, Boo - The last few days have been hellacious for my family. I found a wonderful shelter to take one of my cats whom I couldn't keep in anticipation of a downsizing move and the same day as I was doing laundry, my other cat, Boo Boo, hopped into the dryer without my knowledge and, LORD GOD FORGIVE ME, I SHUT HER IN. My mom came running up the stairs after she found Boo Boo and I called the vet's office after she told me what had happened but it was too late. Boo Boo passed away in my mom's arms. She was a wonderful grey and white tabby, fat and loveable, I called her "the marshmallow cat," because of her size and wonderful personality. I hate what I did and losing two wonderful animals has been a hard blow in an already stressful time.
I Killed My Cat by Not Knowing He Was In the Dryer - My Lycan died on Friday the 17th 2014. I put a bunch of clothes in the dryer and walked away. Later went back and found him as soon as I opened the door. It was too late, he was gone. All because I was too lazy too check before loading my clothes. I haven't slept or eaten because I can't get the image out of my mind. This is my fault and he didn't deserve such a horrible death. He must have wondered why I wasn't saving him. If this does anything , I hope everyone checks dryers, wash machines, car engines, anyplace an animal may hide. Rip Lycan im so so sorry I failed you, I love you
My Cat died an accidental death - . . . on Monday morning I experienced the most traumatic experience of my life. I have a cat named Bailey who I got when he was about 6 weeks old. I loved him the moment I laid eyes on him. We had an amazing bond. He would always find his way to be around me and he followed me every where that I went. We both enjoyed cuddle time and he always loved laying on my chest suckling my ear. On Sunday night it was the same thing with us. He followed me around all night. He lay on top of my chest and we cuddled for a long time. It had been a long day and I was tired so I decided to take a bath to wind down for the night.. He always came in the bathroom and lay by the tub. After I was done I had to go put my daughters school uniform in the dryer that I had washed for the next day. Bailey followed me in the basement as always. We played for a bit as he ran around the basement, running and jumping. I went in the washer to get my daughters uniform and put it in the dryer and it was only a shirt and a pair of pants. I put it in the dryer and cleaned out the lent trap and turned the dryer on. I then went upstairs and went to bed. I thought to myself it was strange that Bailey didn't follow me up but I thought maybe he got tired and went to sleep from all of the running and jumping. I forgot to mentioned that he is now six months old so I had him for a while now. The next day I woke up On Monday morning around 7:45 to get my daughters uniform out of the dryer and get ready for school. I opened the dryer and pulled her pants out and it had rad stains all over it. I thought maybe she had something in her pocket and it got all of her clothes. Then I looked at the dryer door and it was red stains all over it. I was still confused to what this was so as I was reaching in the dryer to get her shirt, I saw the most traumatic thing of my life. I looked in disbelief and saw my Kitty laying in the dryer lifeless and blood splattered everywhere. I screamed at the time of my lungs No over and over again. I kept saying my baby my baby!!! I ran upstairs and my screams had woken my husband and daughter up. I cried Bailey is dead, he got in the dryer!!! I didn't see him, how did he get in there? I am so confused because I never heard him get in the dryer and he never done that before. My heart hurts so bad because how did I not see my Kitty get in the dyer. How did I not hear him when I only put two things in the dryer. It breaks my heart that I couldn't save my baby!!! I cant get the thoughts out of my mind of the pain that he endured that night while I slept. My baby was hurting and I couldn't save his life. I am filled with guilt and blame myself because how did I not see my kitty. Everyone keeps telling me not to blame myself because I didn"t know but it hurts so bad because I turned on the dryer. I want to turn back the hands of time and make this nightmare go away. I want my Bailey back. I miss his cuddles, his purrs, and the way he stares me in my eyes with so much love. How could happen and how did I not see him in there. I been crying everyday and I cant get the image out of my head of him lying there. We were just playing together and now he is gone. Me and my daughter was the closet to him and she is taking it hard. It didn't want her to see him in there but she went and saw him anyway. Now she is going through what I am going through. She cant get it out of her mind and she has not been herself since. I cant go back in the basement and do laundry because that hurts me more. Everything reminds me of him and it hurts my heart so bad. I am devastated because I am suppose to be his protector and He is gone now and I couldn't save him. He had to suffer so bad that night and it hurts me that he had to endure such pain. I want him back and I cant believe he is gone. He was a part of our family and We loved him so much. I am hurting so bad!!!
Just a Normal Morning - I'm a fairly busy man of 32. My wife is disabled leaving me to care for her and my two Children (2 and 4). For the most part we're a normal family with two cats a dog and a fresh litter of 7-8 week old kittens. As I said life can be rather busy. Saturday night around 6 I was of to feed a friends dog. I quickly did the dishes and throw some wet washing in the dryer, the dryer mad a clump like there was a shoe inside, I don't know why I didn't open It up to check it. When I got home it was time to get everyone to bed and I just left the rest of my jobs until Sunday morning. Sunday was just another normal morning. I got the children their breakfast and my wife a cup of tea and then got started on my things to do. I opens the dryer up....shock. There was one of my kittens laying...broken on top of the washing. I'm not emotional by nature, pets passing is always a sad time but I've never been moved to tears. I let out an almighty " Nooooooo". When I pulled the kitten from the dryer it was obvious he had suffered an awful horrific death no creature should have to ever experience. As I said, I'm not emotional by nature, my wife's even accused me of being quite cold hearted. I'm not coping well though, I cant stop seeing that little kitten and its little lifeless eyes looking through me. I honestly thing this'll haunt me forever. I should have checked the dryer when it made a clump. I should have left the door closed. I saw the kitten sniffing there a few days ago and thought to myself " I better be careful". Its my fault, and I deserve my guilt.
I Killed My Pet Cat! - I lost my baby girl this morning by the dryer. Im devastated and hurt I can't believe I didn't see her get in. she was a rescued I found her two years ago. I know it was a accident it still just hurts so bad.
I killed my cat in the dryer!! - My family adopted two kittens 6 months ago one was Gigi the other was Taz. Monday morning Taz was being his normal self always under foot and curious and I went to change the laundry over and put my wet towels in the dryer. I turned it on and heard thumping, I didn't think anything of it because lately almost all loads were seeming to do that. I walked away and fed the cats and noticed Taz wasn't there, I just thought he was sleeping or not hungry. I went to work and when I came home my 16 yr old asked if I saw Taz. We went out looking for him and then I heard my 23 yr old boy screaming for me. He opened the dryer and there was our little guy! My 16 yr old is taking it pretty bad and I can't stop playing the day over and over in my head that it was my fault and what I should have done. I miss my curious stinker so bad! I cry out of pain for my kids and pain of guilt. I didn't mean to do it I love all my cats. Gigi was never really a jump on you and love cat but ever since Monday he has been loving and does seem to be looking for Taz and that breaks my heart. I know I will stop to hurt so bad but I never killed anything in my life. Once I hit a possum but took a towel and moved his dead body out of the road and sat next to it and cried.
I Accidentally Killed My Darling Cat - Hi everyone, I was searching online to just see if anyone has experienced something similar to what I have just experienced and I have, thanks to this site, so it has been a little help thank you. Yesterday my beloved cat Orca, a beautiful, scatty and unique 1.5yr old Bengal died and it was all my fault. I feel sick to my stomach, and the pain is so bad. I was in total hysterics when I found her. She had climbed into the washer/dryer and completely unaware, I shut the door and turned it on for a 30 minute drying cycle. I heard absolutely nothing, no crying, no thudding, nothing. I can only think that she must have climbed in when I had gone to my bedroom to hang up some of the wet clothes. We have a washer dryer, so I opened it after the wash cycle, took out a few items that needed hanging as opposed to drying and made my way into the bedroom to hang them up. I then went back to the washer/dryer and closed the door and started the cycle. We have a front loading washer/dryer, so unless you bend down on your knees you can't see in. I wish, wish, wish I had checked. I wish that I had to add a couple more clothes to the machine, I can't stop thinking about it!
At around her dinner time, I decided to feed her, I called and called for her but heard nothing. I took her food bag and shook it, that usually does the trick but nothing. I turned the apartment upside down and began to panic. I also went outside calling for her, as I thought she might have got out the window, but nothing. I then came back in and just said to myself "she must be somewhere, the little sneak". I didn't in a million years think she had got in the dryer.
When I went to open the machine to take out my clothes, I could see her beautiful patterned fur amongst them all! I couldn't believe it, I pulled her out as fast as I could, and for the slightest of seconds I thought she might be OK, but she wasn't. I can't get that image of her out of my mind, it is going to haunt me forever.
I had seen her moments before I went to take out some of the wet clothes, she was, like normal, on the spare bed, half asleep. I went in and gave her a stroke and a cuddle and then went about my day. I can't, can't can't believe this has happened. I am always so worried about her, when I catch her near a window, or chewing fairy lights, I was always running around making sure she was safe, and now this. My heart is broken. She was my best pal, she would greet me from work and wake me up with my 'cat alarm' at 6:30am. She helped me through my break up!! I just feel so so sad! Sorry for the rant, but I needed to say something :(((((((((
