The Issue

In the world of sports, transparency and accountability are paramount. Yet, one group remains largely unaccountable for their decisions - the referees. These individuals play a crucial role in determining the outcome of games, but there is currently no requirement for them to explain their decisions publicly after games. This lack of transparency can lead to confusion and frustration among fans, players, and coaches alike.

According to a survey conducted by ESPN (2019), 64% of sports fans believe that referees should be required to answer questions about controversial calls after games. Moreover, in professional leagues where referees do participate in post-game interviews - such as the National Rugby League in Australia - there has been a noted increase in public understanding and acceptance of refereeing decisions (Sydney Morning Herald, 2020).

By requiring referees to participate in post-game interviews and answer questions about their decisions, we can foster greater transparency within our beloved sports. This will not only enhance public understanding but also hold these important figures accountable for their actions on the field.

Please sign this petition if you agree that it's time for change; it's time for referees to step up and explain their calls after every game.
