Require paraprofessionals and special needs classrooms in Russell County, Alabama
The Issue
My daughter, who is attending school in Russell County, Alabama, has level 2 autism, sensory processing disorder, and ADHD combined. Despite her enthusiasm for learning and potential to excel, the current educational resources in our district fall short. The schools lack the essential support systems such as paraprofessionals dedicated to children with special needs and specialized classrooms tailored to provide an inclusive learning environment.
Children with special needs require individualized attention that can only be provided by qualified paraprofessionals. These professionals are trained to understand and manage the unique challenges that students face, helping them to not only achieve academically but also build confidence and essential life skills. According to the U.S. Department of Education, schools that implement adequate support systems see substantial improvements in student performance and well-being.
Furthermore, having specialized classrooms is crucial for fostering an environment where children with special needs can learn at their own pace and style, away from the distractions and pressures of a conventional classroom. This personalized learning approach has been shown to significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels in students, according to the National Autism Center.
Currently, children like my daughter are slipping through the cracks in Russell County schools. Without the necessary support, these children are at a greater risk of falling behind, not just academically but socially and emotionally as well. It is imperative to act now and implement changes that will make a meaningful difference in their lives.
I urge the Russell County School Board to prioritize the hiring of paraprofessionals and the creation of dedicated special needs classrooms. By doing so, we can build a more inclusive educational system that values every child's right to learn and succeed.
Your support is essential for this change. Help us advocate for our children and ensure they receive the education they deserve. Please sign this petition to transform our schools for the better.
