Require NOAA to Include HMS Fishing Regulations on their App

The Issue

I am a passionate fisherman, I’m friends with both recreational and commercial tuna fishermen and still chasing my first bluefin. Currently, the regulations for this species are only available on the NOAA website. This means that every time we need to check them, we have to navigate through various web pages which can be time consuming and inconvenient.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has an app where they report different types of data but unfortunately, it does not include these crucial fishing regulations. We believe that including these regulations on the app would greatly benefit all fishermen like me who rely heavily on this information.

Bluefin tuna is a species that is currently facing overfishing issues worldwide. According to The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Atlantic bluefin tuna populations have declined by at least 51% over the past 39 years due to overfishing (source: IUCN Red List). Having easy access to up-to date fishing regulations could play a significant role in promoting sustainable practices and conservation efforts.

We urge NOAA to update their reporting app by adding the HMS fishing regulations. This will not only make life easier for us fishermen but also contribute towards preserving this magnificent species for future generations.
