The Issue

I have been battling agoraphobia since 2013. I was completely homebound by 2014, and now it is 2026 and I am still here begging for help that actually fits what I am dealing with. I have had therapists. I have a psychiatrist. I take medication. I have done exposure therapy. But the problem is the same over and over: the people I can reach do not know what to do with the agoraphobia part, and I am tired of being handed pieces of care that never meet the full reality of my life.

I am not talking about being a little anxious about going out. I have not left my home at all in a decade. I am alone now. Both of my parents are gone, my mom has passed, and I have no support system. I am also living with severe chronic depression, complex grief, complex post-traumatic stress, obsessive compulsive disorder, attention-deficit symptoms, and PKU, and I know I am not the only one falling through every crack. When my post about agoraphobia spread, so many people came forward saying they could not find the right help either. One woman said she was missing chemotherapy because of her agoraphobia. That is how serious this is.

We need national health leaders to recognize severe homebound agoraphobia as a crisis that requires specialized, accessible care. That means creating and funding referral networks, telehealth pathways, home-based treatment options, and rehabilitation programs staffed by clinicians who actually understand severe agoraphobia. People should not have to search across the entire United States and globally for years just to find one person who knows how to help. We need a real system for people like us, not endless dead ends.

I am asking you to sign this petition because we cannot keep leaving people trapped at home without treatment, support, or hope. If you have ever felt invisible in the mental health system, or watched someone you love disappear inside four walls, please stand with us and demand specialized care for homebound agoraphobia now.
