Require mandatory school classes on LGBTQ+ and alterhuman awareness

The Issue

Growing up as part of the Alterhuman and LGBTQ+ community, I've faced ridicule and misunderstanding every step of the way. Not a day goes by without encountering dismissive jokes or hurtful comments simply because of who I am. This isn't just my story – it's the reality for countless others who are suffering in silence or, worse, experiencing severe mental health challenges due to the bullying they face. Our schools, meant to be safe havens for learning and growth, are failing students like me by not providing the critical education necessary to foster understanding and empathy.

A glaring gap exists in the education system regarding LGBTQ+ and Alterhuman issues. Discrimination and bullying stem primarily from ignorance, and the best way to combat ignorance is education. According to GLSEN's School Climate Survey, 84% of LGBTQ+ students reported being verbally harassed at school (GLSEN, 2021). This disturbing statistic highlights the urgent need for educational reform.

We can and must do better. By introducing mandatory classes that focus on LGBTQ+ and Alterhuman awareness, schools can play an instrumental role in shaping an inclusive and respectful environment. Lessons could cover the history, struggles, and achievements of these communities, promoting understanding and acceptance. Educators must be equipped with training and resources to convey these subjects effectively, ensuring that every student, regardless of their identity, feels safe and supported.

In states like California, where inclusive curricula have already been implemented, we've seen positive outcomes with increased acceptance and reduced bullying incidents (California Safe Schools Coalition, 2016).

It's time for action. We demand that education boards and policymakers require mandatory classes on LGBTQ+ and Alterhuman issues in all schools across our nation. By signing this petition, you are supporting a future where every student can attend school free from discrimination and fear.

Please sign this petition to champion change and foster a truly inclusive educational environment for everyone.
