As a pet owner myself, I strongly believe that acquiring a pet should be parallel to welcoming a new family member. It is a loving commitment where we also pledge to ensure their protection and welfare. In our effort to strengthen this bond while securing their welfare, we urgently demand a mandatory registration for all pet owners. This is not just for one type of pet but for all animals that people choose to care for. Children or adults, dogs or cats, birds or reptiles – they all desire respect and safeguarding. This law will hold pet owners accountable and ensure that they treat their pets with the love and respect they deserve. According to the American Pet Products Association, there are around 90 million dogs and 94 million cats owned as pets in the U.S alone as of 2021 (FactSlides). Each of these animals deserves a safe and loving home, and their respective owners should be responsible for providing that. By requiring people to register as pet owners, we can potentially prevent abuse, neglect and abandonment. Lastly, these registrations will provide data valuable for animal welfare organizations, allowing them to identify patterns and adapt their strategies for animal protection campaigns.
