Urgent Update: Next Steps for Jetta Point—Volunteers Needed!

Our collective voice is making a major impact! Thanks to the 2,113 who signed our petition and those who attended and spoke up at the July 28th Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting, local media is putting a spotlight on our fight to preserve Jetta Point. Recent coverage in the Orlando Sentinel and Oviedo Community News has highlighted our severe community concerns regarding recurring flooding, stormwater management, and the protection of our local wildlife—including our resident bald eagles.
The Latest Development
At the conclusion of the July 28th Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting, (0:43:09 for public input, 3:31:00 for action item), county management took on an official action item. They are currently preparing a comprehensive plan that outlines future options for Jetta Point, along with the pros and cons of each path. Management is required to provide a target date for this plan to the BCC at their very next meeting. The BCC intends to select one option and provide direction to county management.
Why We Need You Now
This upcoming county plan means a critical second round of public input is fast approaching. To ensure our community is fully prepared to advocate for conservation over development, we need volunteers to step forward today.
We must organize our strategy and heavily promote our community-driven alternatives, including our:
Passive Park Concept: A low-impact vision featuring hiking trails integrated into the existing Cross Seminole Trail facilities.
Economic Business Case: Our detailed proposal proving how preservation directly benefits local taxpayers and stormwater resiliency.
How You Can Help
Whether you can help spread the word, review upcoming county proposals, or help coordinate community input toward the County BCC and turnouts at upcoming meetings, your time is invaluable.
Let’s keep the momentum going and protect Jetta Point from being paved over. Thank you for your continued dedication to our community!
