The Issue

As an independent author, I have faced significant challenges due to the conduct of IngramSpark. Despite my dedication to creating quality content, I found myself lost in a web of confusion and frustration due to their opaque processes. Sales of my books went unrecorded, and I was unfairly charged for returns that were never even processed. When I sought clarity and assistance, hoping to connect with a real person to resolve these pressing issues, I was met with demands for payment just to get a phone number. This lack of accessibility and transparency stifled my ability to manage my publishing effectively.

IngramSpark's current practices present a severe disadvantage to authors and publishers. They wield unchecked power to amend terms and conditions, altering return statuses as they see fit, and suspending or terminating accounts without adequate justification or recourse. Such decisions can be made under the threat of removing existing books from the market unless the new terms are accepted, leaving authors in a perilous position, having to agree to inequitable conditions simply to maintain their works' availability.

The publishing community deserves better—authors deserve transparent records of sales and returns, free access to customer service representatives, and fair, stable terms that respect their rights and contributions. IngramSpark should be required to provide full visibility into sales and returns information to publishers. Mandatory access to a free customer service phone line would allow authors to resolve issues efficiently without the barrier of unexpected costs.

These changes are not just beneficial to individual authors but enhance the integrity of the entire publishing ecosystem. By demanding transparency and fair treatment, we foster a healthier, more supportive environment for creators and their works.

Let's band together to urge IngramSpark to reform their practices. By signing this petition, you contribute to a movement that demands respect and fairness for all authors striving to share their voices with the world.
