Require German Embassy to review marriage legality in Ghana

Require German Embassy to review marriage legality in Ghana
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the treatment of a German citizen, Akosua Serwaa, by the judiciary in Ghana. Recently, a judge in Ghana dismissed her German civil marriage certificate, stating it isn’t recognized within the country. This decision not only invalidates a legally-binding German marriage but also raises questions about fairness and justice in the Ghanaian legal system.
Akosua, who followed all legal formalities in Germany, is now facing an intolerable situation in Ghana where her marriage is not considered valid. This leads to significant emotional and legal distress, reflecting broader issues within a judicial framework that should uphold international recognition of lawful marriages. The dismissal appears arbitrary and unjust, highlighting systemic problems and a troubling precedent for foreign nationals with legal ties to Germany.
The situation is aggravated by my belief that the Ghana judiciary system is plagued by corruption, as this unfair treatment suggests bias against German citizens. It is crucial for the German government and German Embassy in Ghana to intervene and address this issue promptly.
By recognizing the legitimacy of German marriage certificates, we uphold the rights of individuals who have legally formalized their unions in Germany and prevent gross legal injustices against foreign citizens within Ghana.
Furthermore, reciprocal respect between nations should inspire the German Embassy not to accept Ghanaian ordinance marriages until an understanding and recognition is reached. Known acts of legal dismissal in Ghana against a nation like Germany are unacceptable and ought to be contested on grounds of international harmony and legal reciprocity.
We urge the German Embassy in Ghana, along with the German Government, to investigate this legal inconsistency and assure the protection of their citizens abroad. Stand with us in demanding justice for Akosua Serwaa and respect for international marriage agreements.
