The Issue

I keep thinking about how ridiculous this sounds when you say it out loud: people walk around saying they can handle their mental health alone like that is something to be proud of. Like there is supposed to be a badge of honor for suffering in silence. There is no parade for toughing it out alone. There is no prize for refusing help. I know that deeply, because I would not be alive if I had not reached out.

The problem is not just stigma in our heads. It is also the way mental health care gets treated like it is optional, secondary, or too hard to access. People are already fighting their own minds, their own fear, their own shame. They should not also have to fight insurance denials, limited provider networks, impossible costs, or endless hoops just to talk to someone and get support.

That is why I am calling on health insurers and the officials who regulate them to require real equal coverage for mental health care. Therapy, counseling, and other mental health treatment should be covered without extra barriers that make people give up before they even begin. If we say mental health matters, then coverage has to reflect that. Reaching out cannot be treated like a luxury.

So on World Mental Health Day, I am asking you to help break the stigma in a way that creates real change. Sign this petition to demand mental health care that people can actually use when they need it. No medals for suffering alone. Real support, real access, and real care.
