Require database registration for animal dumpers in the U.S. & across the globe.
The Issue
There are too many amazing, domesticated animals—cats and dogs—who were once purchased or rescued by individuals thinking they were getting a great deal. Unfortunately, many of these individuals soon realized that caring for these animals required more responsibility and commitment than they were willing or able to contribute. It's understandable that life and hardships can happen, making it challenging to care for these animals, but the only option currently available is to "dump" them at shelters, where they are often put down. This cycle of abandonment and euthanasia for these innocent animals needs to come to an end.
To tackle this pressing issue, we propose implementing a database system for all individuals who relinquish an animal to animal shelters across the United States & across the globe.. This system would serve as a record and caution flag, preventing them from easily adopting or rescuing another animal in the future unless they can prove a substantial improvement in their circumstances. Such a system would deter casual or irresponsible ownership and encourage more thoughtful adoption decisions.
A database would enable shelters to track repeat offenders who may have a pattern of abandoning pets, ensuring they are closely monitored or required to meet stringent adoption criteria. By applying this method, we can reduce the number of animals that face euthanasia due to abandonment.
It’s time for change; it’s time to take responsibility and protect the welfare of these vulnerable animals from avoidable tragedy. Sign this petition to support the establishment of a nationwide database to ensure that individuals dumping animals at shelters are held accountable and to end the heart-wrenching cycle of abandonment. Your signature can help save countless lives and implement a fair system that benefits both animals and compassionate adopters.
