Require Congressional Approval for Large Federal Budget Cuts

Require Congressional Approval for Large Federal Budget Cuts
The Issue
Growing up, my education has always been a top priority. I attend a school in a district that directly feels the impact of federal budget allocations. Recently, the threat of potential budget cuts looms large, casting a shadow on my future, my classmates' future, and the educational system we're part of. Our worries are not unwarranted—budget cuts exceeding $10,000,000 can drastically affect the quality and accessibility of education.
Currently, decisions about these significant financial cuts can be made without the need for Congressional majority approval, allowing for swift but potentially damaging changes to federal departments such as the Department of Education. The educational trajectory of thousands of students is held in balance by decisions made without sufficient oversight or accountability.
We propose implementing a policy requiring any budget cuts totaling over $10,000,000 from federal departments to receive a majority approval from Congress. This requirement would ensure a checks-and-balances system, encourage a more thoughtful consideration of the broader impacts, and allow for a deeper analysis of the potential consequences of reducing educational funding.
With a Congressional majority's oversight, budgetary decisions would reflect a wider array of perspectives and concerns, leading to more balanced and equitable outcomes across the board. Students like me and my classmates should be guaranteed the opportunity to receive an uninterrupted, quality education without the fear of losing valuable resources due to sudden changes in budgetary priorities.
Standing together, we can work towards a fairer system that protects our schools, our education, and our future. Your voice matters in this cause. Join us by signing this petition to require Congressional approval for any significant budget cuts in federal departments. Let's ensure that every student's education counts and that critical decisions affecting our future are handled with the seriousness they deserve.
