We the undersigned wish to appeal for your urgent support to release Dr Pathum Kerner and other political detainees in Sri Lanka.

Pathum is a doctor who has served as a General Practitioner for 5 years in Singapore. He is the leader of the political party in Sri Lanka, National Green Front.

As you are aware Sri Lanka, oldest democracy in Asia is experiencing the worst economic and political crisis since gaining independence in 1948. Pathum and others have been leading activists in the peaceful protests supported by millions of citizens against the current corrupt regime. They were successfull in ousting the president Mr.Gotabaya Rajapaksha ( who is currently in Singapore) but under the new president Mr.Ranil Wickramasinghe, there is a mass state sponsored arrest wave going on targeting all the young activists who lead the protests.

The government imposed emergency regulations permitting the detention of suspects indefinitely and prorogued parliament on 27th July 2022 allowing widespread oppressive efforts to quash the public decent and harass activists. Pathum was arrested on 28th July 2022.

There have been numerous incidents of extrajudicial killing within the last 12 months; these grave violations of human rights have been highlighted by The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and international organisations promoting human rights.

Historically, Mr.Ranil Wickramasinghe has been accused of being connected to the mass killings of Sri Lankan youth who protested against the government in 1988.   Batalanda mass killings

We are incessantly concerned about the safety of the lives of Pathum and other detainees. The chances that their children never seeing their fathers alive is a palpable reality.
