Request Yankalilla Council to address parking in Second Valley
The issue
Second Valley is more than just a destination on the Fleurieu Peninsula; it is where the beauty of nature meets the warmth of a welcoming community. For years, this hidden gem of South Australia has been cherished by both locals and visitors alike, weaving memories of serene landscapes and coastal adventures. However, recent changes to the parking arrangements threaten the ability of tourists to truly immerse themselves in the magic of our beloved town.
The Yankalilla Council's decision to barricade the former summer overflow parking area next to the Caravan Park, which once comfortably accommodated up to 60 additional vehicles on busy days, has raised genuine concerns. Without these parking spaces, we foresee congestion clogging our idyllic streets and unwanted inconvenience right on the doorsteps of our homes. The spill over parking will not only mar the peace of our community but also deter visitors who we rely upon to experience and support our local businesses.
We recognize that the Council must prioritize developments for the community, yet it is critical that these developments sustain Second Valley’s appeal for both its residents and visitors. A comprehensive parking solution, balancing the needs of the community with those of tourists, is essential.
Here are some actionable ideas for the Council to consider:
-Removing the new bollards to allow for parking as per the last 30yrs.
-Opening the overflow parking on busy tourist days.
- Conduct a feasibility study to identify possible alternative parking sites that mitigate residence disturbance.
- Enhance public transportation routes to access Second Valley, reducing dependency on private vehicle parking.
- Implement shuttle services from designated parking sites during peak holiday seasons.
Addressing this issue now will preserve the legacy and allure of Second Valley, both now and for future generations. Your signature on this petition will urge Yankalilla Council to take prompt and comprehensive action to ensure that Second Valley remains an attractive destination for all.
Please sign our petition today to show support whether your a local or future tourist for thoughtful and effective parking solutions in Second Valley. Do need to donate just share this cause to a few of your friends contact list that love Second Valley.
