Subject: Request to Stop the Festival Organized by the Eritrean Regime in Sweden

Dear Ambassador Pontus Melander,
I am writing to you as a concerned member of the Worldwide Eritrean Yiakl (enough) Mass Movement. We are a collective of Eritrean nationals in various countries, including Europe, North America, Africa, and Australia, striving to end the dictatorial regime in Eritrea and promote democracy and the rule of law in our home country.

Firstly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Swedish government for providing protection and safety to Eritrean refugees as a signatory to the 1951 Convention on the Status of Refugees and the UN Convention against Torture. Your support has been instrumental in safeguarding the fundamental human rights of those who had to flee their homeland.
However, I am writing with great concern regarding an upcoming event organized by the Eritrean regime in Sweden. The festival is scheduled to take place in Stockholm from the 3rd to the 6th of August 2023. As you are well aware, the Eritrean government is known for violating the rights of its citizens, leading to a significant number of Eritreans seeking refuge in Sweden and other countries.
Regrettably, the Eritrean government uses illicit and coercive practices within our communities, even in foreign lands, to exert its influence on Eritrean nationals living abroad. Recently, on the 8th of July, the Eritrean regime attempted to hold a festival in Giessen, Germany, which resulted in unrest and injuries to many Eritreans and police officers. The city of Giessen had initially blocked the festival, the ban was unfortunately overturned by a local court, leading to unnecessary clashes, endangering lives.
Furthermore, the authorities and the UK Metropolitan Police wisely decided to ban a similar festival scheduled for the 14th and 15th of July due to heightened tensions between supporters and opponents of the regime. This decisive action by the police helped prevent further violence and loss of life among Eritrean nationals.
In light of these events and recognizing the potential risks associated with the festival planned in Sweden, we kindly request the Swedish authorities to make a similar determination and take appropriate measures to prevent the festival from taking place on Swedish soil. By doing so, you will not only protect the safety and well-being of Eritrean nationals residing in Sweden but also send a strong message against the oppressive practices of the Eritrean regime.
Thank you for considering our request. We believe that together, we can uphold the values of democracy, human rights, and justice for all.
Yours Sincerely,

Yiakl movement in Australia
