Request to lower the speed limit on Route 870 Kierstead Mountain New Brunswick
Request to lower the speed limit on Route 870 Kierstead Mountain New Brunswick
The Issue
We, the concerned residents and road users of Route 870, Kierstead Mountain, are asking the New Brunswick Department of Transportation and Infrastructure to conduct a safety assessment and review the current 80 km/h speed limit.
There are now several families with children living along this road. School buses stop in driveways and near blind knolls, where visibility is limited. Vehicles regularly travel at or above the posted speed limit, creating a dangerous situation for children getting on and off school buses.
Drivers coming over blind knolls may have very little time to react when encountering a stopped school bus or children near the roadway.
As a resident of Kierstead Mountain and someone who works in the school system, I am deeply concerned about the potential for a serious accident. We should not have to wait for a child or another road user to be injured before action is taken.
We are requesting that the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure:
Conduct a safety assessment of Route 870, Kierstead Mountain.
Review the current 80 km/h speed limit and consider reducing it to a safer speed.
Assess the blind knolls and school bus stopping locations.
Consider additional warning signs and other appropriate safety measures.
This petition is intended to demonstrate community support for improving road safety and protecting our children, families, and everyone travelling on Route 870.
Please support our request for a formal safety assessment and appropriate action before a preventable tragedy occurs.
