Recently, certain social media accounts sharing protests in Turkey in the past few days have been subject to blocking requests by the Turkish government. This request has been accepted by the relevant social media platform. Freedom of expression is one of the fundamental pillars of democracy, and this situation can be regarded as a direct attack on freedom of expression. Globally, according to the 2021 Freedom of Expression Index, attacks on freedom of expression are on the rise. Considering that Turkey holds a low rank in this index, this is a serious cause for concern. The protection of freedom of expression is fundamental to a free and informed society.
