Request Steve Case (AOL) Allow a Nonprofit Use of a Closed Pet Hotel on His Land

Please join me in requesting Steve Case (co-founder of AOL) and Jean Case allow an established animal welfare nonprofit (Kauai Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals--KSPCA) to use a closed pet boarding facility (Whiskers Resort) located on land they own. The founder of Whiskers Resort is willing to donate the facility to the animal welfare related nonprofit.

KSPCA would like to utilize the buildings of Whiskers Resort as a headquarters for their organization which offers free services to the community. They have been providing free spay and neuter services, microchipping, vaccines and parasite preventative for cats and dogs. This is critical to address the pet overpopulation problem on Kauai which results in suffering. In fact, the County of Kauai contracted with a company to eradicate (i.e. poison) cats near the nesting areas of endangered shorebirds. This is a further indication of how critical spay and neuter programs are on Kauai.

KSPCA has already provided no cost neutering for thousands of pets and helped adopt out hundreds. Their clinics fill up each month, demonstrating the need for these services. Currently, the KSPCA has no site and has had to borrow its facilities. Unfortunately, due to the efforts needed to constantly prep, put up and take down these clinics, this is not viable long term. In order to continue to provide these services to the community, KSPCA must secure a home.

The facilities of Whiskers Resort are ideal as the pet hotel was designed specifically for animal care. The removal or even repurposing of this compound would be an incredible loss to the community and sustainability insensitive. Ideally, the space will continue to benefit the island's animals.

We need your help. Please join us in requesting the use of this pet hotel for the nonprofit via an affordable lease. And please share and promote this petition. A big mahalo!

Moksha McClure R(S), Founder of Whiskers ResortPetition StarterI started a pet hotel named Whiskers Resort on the island of Kauai. It offered cat and dog boarding and day care. It has been closed since 2020. My dream is that a nonprofit can make use of it going forward and it can continue to benefit Hawaii's animals.
