Request Policy Change Maryland Sex Offender Registry to Display Offenders' Vehicle Photos

Request Policy Change Maryland Sex Offender Registry to Display Offenders' Vehicle Photos
The Issue
The author of this petition, a concerned Maryland citizen, believes that vehicles have become an integral part of an individual's identity. Thus, they strongly feel that including a photograph of offenders' vehicles in the Maryland Sex Offender Registry can bolster public safety and vigilance.
Decades of evidence support this proposition. According to various research, sex offenders who re-offend often use vehicles in the commission of their crimes (Durling, 2008). Distinguished professor Roger Przybylski found in his extensive research that certain characteristics like vehicle usage were associated with recidivism among sex offenders (Przybylski, 2008).
Furthermore, distinct vehicles, especially customized ones, could be more easily identifiable than faces by witnesses and victims, due to their unique features and striking appearance.
To improve community safety and assurance, we urge Maryland policy makers to update the current regulation and include photos of all vehicles driven by the registered sex offender in the Maryland Sex Offender Registry.
Help protect our communities, our children, ourselves, and reinforce our system's effectiveness by joining this urgent appeal. Sign this petition, raise your voice, and demand Maryland to take this pivotal step towards better safety measures.
