The Issue

We, the students who appeared for the CBSE Class 10  Mathematics Examination, wish to respectfully present our concern regarding the overall difficulty level and time-consuming nature of the question paper.

Many students had prepared rigorously throughout the academic year with the aim of achieving high scores, including full marks, through consistent practice of NCERT and sample papers. However, the actual examination paper contained a higher proportion of multi-step, case-study, and interpretation-based questions, which significantly increased the time required per question.

While we acknowledge that the questions were based on the prescribed syllabus, the framing and cognitive demand of several questions were comparatively more application-oriented than the level generally expected for Basic Mathematics. This created a preparation–assessment gap, especially for students who opted for Basic Mathematics with the expectation of a more straightforward and foundational evaluation pattern.

Additionally, a considerable number of students across different examination centres faced difficulty in completing the paper within the allotted time despite having conceptual understanding, which affected their ability to attempt all questions fully. In such situations, students who had prepared sincerely and aimed for excellence may be disproportionately impacted due to time pressure rather than lack of knowledge.

We humbly request the Board to kindly consider:

Lenient and step-wise evaluation for multi-step questions
Acceptance of method-based answers wherever applicable
Appropriate moderation after statistical analysis of national performance
This request is not made as a complaint against the examination process, but as a sincere appeal in the interest of fairness for students whose hard work, academic goals, and aspirations were closely tied to their performance in this examination.

We trust that the Board will take a balanced and data-driven decision keeping student welfare and academic integrity in mind.

Thanking You,
Concerned Students of Class 10

Let us come together to ensure that all students receive the fair evaluation they deserve, helping them to pursue their dreams without the shadow of an unjust assessment. Sign this petition to support lenient checking and moderation in the CBSE Class 10 Basic Mathematics examination.
