Victoria’s Environmental Effects Statement, the approval process used for major projects, is well and truly a farce.
It’s an Act from 1978, and it is clearly showing it’s age.
The main flaw is that when an EES is ordered, the entire statement is prepared by the developer or applicant.
If this isn’t the biggest conflict of interest then I don’t know what is.
How could anybody rely on an applicant, who is fighting for their project to be approved, to give an honest and fairdinkum report of how their project will damage the environment. It’s madness!
If you agree, please consider signing the attached e-Petition calling on the Government to review this redundant EES process.
The petition ends this Friday Oct 22nd. The time to sign is NOW.
