All,
We received an update about Harvard Alumni Email Forwarding today from Sarah Karmon, HAA Executive Director. In summary, the last 3 graduating classes have been signing up for email forwarding, and has been going smoothly. Starting in November, they will begin transitioning current Harvard alumni from the previous email forwarding platform to the new one. All sounds good to us.
"I did want to share an update on how email forwarding is going for our most recent graduating classes and to share our timeline for migrating existing addresses to our new service.
To date more than 4,500 alumni from the University-wide classes of 2021, 2022, and 2023 have set up email forwarding addresses. This breaks down by Class as follows:
· 2021: ~1,100 accounts
· 2022: ~1,500 accounts
· 2023: ~1,900 accounts
I’m happy to report that the technology has been working well, and we’ve had very few alumni in these classes need support from our help desk.
Our next step will be to migrate existing users—who number more than 135,000—onto our new and improved email forwarding platform. Given the size of this group, we will be moving users over in a phased approach between November 2023 and early winter 2024. We plan to reach out to all existing users tomorrow to let them know when their email address will migrate.
There is nothing existing users will need to do to prepare for the migration. They will be able to keep their email forwarding address in its current form and can continue to make updates to it through the Alumni Directory. Once their account is moved over, we expect them to see an improvement in the email forwarding experience.
After all current accounts move into the new platform, we will then turn our attention to opening the service to new eligible alumni. I expect this work to take place sometime in 2024 and will plan to share an update when we have a clearer timeframe."
