The Issue

Technology has become an integral part of education in Ontario's classrooms. However, research is constantly coming to light stressing the risks to mental health, decreasing attention spans, addictive behaviours, and cognitive impacts caused by technology misuse in schools.  This is particularly worrying in a school setting where students' well-being and development should be priorities. In Ontario, the results from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessments reveal a worrying trend that calls for immediate reform.

To address these concerns, we request:

1. That the Ministry of Education and the school boards engage with medical professionals in research-based understanding of how tech affects children.

2. Elimination of Chromebooks in the classroom and a return to computer labs with focused research time, typing skills, and a time limit to access.

3. Limitation of YouTube video use to approved videos (similar to how the school boards must use board-approved books, resources, vendors, speakers, etc.).

Join us in advocating for a balanced and mindful approach to technology in Ontario's schools. Sign this petition to call on the Ministry of Education and local school boards to take immediate action in addressing technology use in classrooms and ensuring the well-being and success of our students.
