The current flag used for Iran on Meta platforms represents a regime that has repeatedly shut down the internet and systematically suppressed the Iranian people.

While coordinated accounts linked to the Iranian regime’s cyber forces continuously engage in harassment, intimidation, and threats against pro-freedom activists on Meta platforms, Meta’s claim of neutrality in Iran’s current political context effectively amounts to indifference toward the human rights of Iranians and symbolic alignment with an oppressive system.

Therefore, we call on Meta to discontinue the use of the Islamic Republic’s flag and replace it with the historical and national Lion and Sun symbol—widely recognized by Iranians as the historical emblem of Iran’s national identity.

پرچم فعلی ایران در پلتفرم‌های متا نماد رژیمی است که بارها اینترنت را قطع کرده و به‌صورت سیستماتیک مردم ایران را سرکوب کرده است.

در حالی که حساب‌های وابسته به ارتش سایبری رژیم ایران در پلتفرم‌های متا به‌طور پیوسته و سازمان‌یافته به آزار، توهین و تهدید مخالفان آزادی‌خواه می‌پردازند، ادعای بی‌طرفی متا در شرایط کنونی ایران عملاً به معنای بی‌تفاوتی نسبت به حقوق بشر ایرانیان و همراهی نمادین با سرکوب نظام حاکم است.

بر این اساس، ما خواستار آن هستیم که متا استفاده از پرچم جمهوری اسلامی را متوقف کرده و به‌جای آن، نماد تاریخی و ملی «شیر و خورشید»—که برای بخش بزرگی از جامعه ایران نماد هویت ملی و تاریخی کشور محسوب می‌شود—را جایگزین کند
