I know this is another somewhat lengthy update, but please take the few minutes it will take to read it through. If you genuinely just cannot take that time, at least read the last bit I marked with two stars ** and please take a minute to help in the way I ask there.
TL;DR: I need your help, so please keep speaking up/sharing this petition, and please consider sending an email or post like I ask in the asterisked section at the end.
Unfortunately this is another update where I come to all of you with no breakthroughs to speak of in terms of measurable actions taken against Kramnik. There are now over 50 thousand of you here, together, yet still we are met with only minimal responses. Also, there has been no acknowledgement whatsoever, whether from FIDE or the FIDE EDC, condemning or investigating the comments made by Emil. Although we are looking to anyone we can for answers, and we are being met with silence in response, remember that there is a reason for that. FIDE’s EDC has made a statement recently saying that an investigation has been opened against Kramnik, and FIDE’s President Arkady Dvorkovich has made further statements regarding Kramnik. Aside from that, it seems as though FIDE and Emil are trying to take the quiet, passive approach, and see if the community will allow them to carry on as usual if they wait it out long enough. We have to show them that this will not be allowed, and that the community will not let this simply fade into history.
The only way that we can be sure that actual, legitimate, equitable and justifiable action is taken in light of everything that has happened is to keep speaking out. Take note of how much time has passed between Emil’s despicable comments in the wake of Danya’s passing, and his first post he recently published since then. Notice that he had gone quiet for roughly two weeks, and is now making a post completely unrelated to any of it, without acknowledging/apologizing, in what seems to me an attempt to gauge how people respond to him breaking his silence. Also, notice that if you check FIDE’s social media accounts and the FIDE.com landing page, you will find no mention of the issues, no statement in response, not even a small memorial in honor of Danya, unless you actually go digging for it. This reads to me like an organization taking the “let’s wait it out and see if people just forget” approach, because taking action is to be avoided, if they can deem doing so unnecessary.
As I said in another update, I am no longer doing these as frequently, because I want to keep this petition more direct and to the point. Don’t think for a second that I have stopped working towards our end goal, though, as that is definitely not the case. Aside from reaching out to as many people, in as many ways as I am capable of, I am also trying to have some important conversations behind the scenes that can hopefully serve to be productive and meaningful in bringing an end to all of this.
** Here is where I need all of you, and here is where I again ask for your help. Like I said, the only way we can be sure that they do not just give a minimal response to this situation, is to continue speaking out and conveying the gravity of it. If we let them see that we WILL NOT forget, and we WILL NOT let them just wait out the storm, they will have to do something. Sadly, we haven’t seen nearly as much action as we would hope from the top players or from the top personalities tied to chess, but we can keep asking them to express this support with us and speak out. Besides this, to each of you here in this petition, I ask you to do this:
Please, keep posting to any social media platform you can, and spreading the word of this injustice. Do this, and include the petition, mentioning that there are over 50 thousand of us represented in this petition alone, as well as MANY more who, although not signed here, are continuing to call for action. Please do so, and keep asking for action from FIDE, as well as action from the town of Asnières-sur-Seine. Also, I have linked below some other means by which you can reach out to FIDE, and the town of Asnières-sur-Seine. If you don’t want to go through the effort of writing an email of your own, I have provided two email templates for anyone to use alongside the contact info for both.
