Request Dept Of Justice for Oversight of TikTok’s Discriminatory Moderation Practices?
The Issue
To the Honorable United States Department of Justice,
We, the undersigned, submit this petition with grave concern regarding TikTok’s pattern of discriminatory enforcement, selective targeting, and what can only be described as digital incitement through unjustified restrictions and arbitrary violations against peaceful creators. TikTok’s “rooms” and enforcement mechanisms have become spaces that foster digital riots of sarcasm and suppression—denouncing violence on the surface, yet weaponizing their moderation to silence voices of fairness, peace, and unity. The arbitrary standards applied to small accounts like DadWarz (with under 12,000 followers, and most videos not even reaching 100 views) reveal a troubling pattern: constant petty violations, restricted appeals, and retaliatory enforcement.
Documented Examples:
Videos promoting unity and nonviolence were flagged as “bullying and harassment” or “extremist views.”
After appeal, some videos were restored—yet “appeal videos” themselves were restricted, blocking creators from even articulating their defense.
Evidence shows deliberate targeting of both the main account (DadWarz) and backup (DadWarzDealz), while much larger accounts promoting far more controversial content are overlooked or even boosted. This reveals a dual standard: scrutinize the small, ignore the large.
Historical Precedent:
It was once said, “Truth crushed to earth shall rise again” (William Cullen Bryant). This quote reflects the core of our concern: no matter how often platforms attempt to bury fairness under inconsistent enforcement, the truth will surface. Our Petition:
We respectfully call upon the Department of Justice to:
Audit TikTok’s moderation and enforcement practices for patterns of bias, discrimination, and arbitrary censorship.
Preserve all digital evidence and records related to these moderation practices. We anticipate trivial retaliation once this petition and its associated TikTok video are made public, and we urge the DOJ to ensure no evidence is discarded or tampered with.
Affirm the rights of creators under the First Amendment in light of the President’s recent acknowledgment that social media platforms are not shielded when engaging in unfair, discriminatory practices against citizens.
Guarantee equal enforcement standards, ensuring that small accounts are not disproportionately targeted while larger accounts are allowed to escape scrutiny. This petition is not submitted in anger but in the spirit of fairness, peace, and assurance. We seek only equal treatment and a digital environment where free expression and constructive dialogue are not silenced under arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement.
We, the undersigned, stand together in this request for oversight, accountability, and protection of our civil rights in the digital sphere.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned Citizens and Citizen PAIN
