Request consideration of Fernwood roundabout site for wooden ox
The Issue
For many of Balderton residents living in the community, the proposed location for the wooden ox sculpture has been a matter of considerable discussion and concern. The Parish Council's insistence on placing this piece outside Sainsbury's, against the initial feedback from residents and despite it being declined by Via, is troubling.
Residents have voiced their apprehensions about the site on London Road, directly across from Sainsbury's. This location is a potential hazard, made more concerning by the traffic dynamics in the area. Right-hand turns into Sainsbury’s, combined with the road's changing speed limit from 40-30 mph
in 2024 due to safety concerns , further exacerbates safety risks. It is crucial to note that these concerns are not merely hypothetical; they are based on real, lived experiences from those of us who navigate this area daily.
We have endeavored to actively engage with the Parish Council to identify a more appropriate site for the installation. However, our efforts to collaborate and steer the project towards a safer and more suitable location have thus far proved challenging.
Given these circumstances, we firmly believe that the Nottingham county Council should onl consider the Balderton /Fernwood roundabout as a viable alternative for the wooden ox. This site not only alleviates the stated safety issues but also offers a prominent, visually appealing location that can enhance both traffic safety and community engagement without compromising on the aesthetic goals of the project.
We urge the counter Council to respect the feedback from its constituents and to act in the best interest of public safety and community vision. Please join us in signing this petition to endorse the Fernwood roundabout as the preferred location for the wooden ox installation.
it was not our decision to purchase this or to bring this project forward however we feel that if we don’t act it’s either going to be stood in storage for many years or it’s going to go into an unsuitable site .
