Memorandum to the Prime Minister of India
Bahrain, 20th January 2026
To:
The Honorable Prime Minister of India
Shri Narendra Modi
South Block, Raisina Hill
New Delhi - 110011, India
Subject: Request for Conferment of Bharat Ratna Award on Viswa Vikhyatha, Nata Sarwabhouma, Padmasree NT Rama Rao Garu for His Illustrious Public Service Legacy
Respected Prime Minister Ji,
The Bahrain Non-Resident Telugu Community, comprising thousands of dedicated NRIs from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana residing in the Kingdom of Bahrain, humbly submits this memorandum to earnestly request the conferment of the prestigious Bharat Ratna Award upon Viswa Vikhyatha, Nata Ratna, Padmasree Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Garu (1923-1996) in recognition of his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema, Culture, and Public service.
NT Rama Rao Garu, fondly revered as NTR, transformed Telugu cinema through over 300 iconic mythological films portraying divine figures like Lord Rama, Krishna, and Shiva, embedding moral values and spiritual ethos in millions of hearts across generations. His cinematic excellence earned him the Padma Shri in 1968, but his true legacy shines in public service as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (1983-1989, 1994-1995), where he pioneered welfare schemes like ₹2/kg rice for the poor, women's savings programs, and rural electrification, uplifting millions from poverty while championing Telugu pride and federalism.
From Bahrain, where Telugu families sustain cultural traditions, we draw inspiration from NTR Garu's devotion to Sanatana Dharma and selfless governance. Awarding him the Bharat Ratna—India's highest civilian honor—would immortalize his sacrifices, inspire youth, and honor the Telugu diaspora’s enduring bond with the motherland.
We place our faith in your visionary leadership to approve this nomination at the earliest. Copies of this memorandum are endorsed by community leaders and will be shared via the Indian Embassy in Manama.
Jai Hind!
Sincerely,
Chief Coordinator,
