Request Apple to Release an iPhone Without PWM Flicker (IPS LCD Display)
The Issue
Dear Apple,
As loyal users of Apple products, we love the quality and seamless experience your devices offer, but many of us who are sensitive to PWM flicker find it difficult to use your iPhones without experiencing significant eye strain, headaches, and other visual discomfort. These symptoms, often mistaken as simply being "tired" or stressed, can be attributed to the pulse-width modulation (PWM) used in the dimming of your OLED displays.
The Problem:
PWM dimming, while invisible to most, creates rapid fluctuations in screen brightness that can lead to migraines, eye strain, dry eyes, and fatigue for those sensitive to it.
Many users, including myself, are left with no choice but to adjust brightness or use workarounds like blue light filters that only alleviate the problem slightly.
Subtle symptoms such as headaches or eye fatigue are often attributed to unrelated causes, with the true source being the screen’s flicker.
The Solution:
We are requesting that Apple offer a version of the iPhone with an IPS LCD display, which would be flicker-free and easier on the eyes for those sensitive to flicker.
IPS LCD displays do not use PWM dimming, and they provide a flicker-free experience, making them a better choice for customers who prioritize visual comfort.
By introducing a flicker-free iPhone, Apple can serve the growing segment of customers who suffer from PWM flicker sensitivity, while still offering the quality, performance, and user experience that iPhones are known for.
Why This Matters:
This change would provide better accessibility for users who want an Apple device but are unable to enjoy it due to the flickering caused by OLED technology.
The inclusion of an IPS LCD iPhone model would create more options for flicker-sensitive consumers without forcing them to choose between iOS and screen comfort.
Join me in urging Apple to offer a flicker-free iPhone option, allowing users to enjoy the best of iOS without the discomfort caused by PWM flicker.
Thank you for your support!
Jim
