I have dedicated my life to the elder care community in Florida, where the integrity and effectiveness of our law enforcement are particularly significant for the welfare and safety of our aging population. The transparency and accountability of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department under Sheriff Bob Gualtieri have become matters of grave concern to me and many others who entrust this institution with the safety of our loved ones. Unfortunately, the lack of publicly available financial and performance data makes it challenging for citizens to fully trust the decision-making processes and allocation of taxpayer dollars that significantly impact our community. Such reports echo the sentiments within our community, highlighting the pressing need for an unbiased, thorough investigation into the department's operations. Therefore, we demand that the Pinellas County Commissioners formally request a court order to initiate a comprehensive performance and financial audit of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department. The audit should not only focus on financial allocations and expenditures but also scrutinize personnel performance, response times, and community engagement programs, especially those affecting our vulnerable senior citizens. This audit is crucial to ensuring that Sheriff Bob Gualtieri is held accountable and that our law enforcement department maintains the highest standards of operation, promoting an environment of trust and safety in our community. Only with transparent and accountable systems can we assure our elders that they are receiving the protection and service they deserve.
