Replit’s recent shift to an “AI-agent first” workflow removes the option to start projects manually, even for experienced programmers and young learners. While AI assistance can be helpful, forcing all users to rely on an agent limits creativity, experimentation, and the hands-on learning that is essential for developing coding skills. Many beginners and students benefit from starting with a blank canvas, exploring, and learning through trial and error. By removing this option, Replit risks turning coding into a “fill in the blanks” exercise rather than a creative process. We urge Replit to restore the ability to create projects manually, ensuring that learners of all ages can continue to develop problem-solving skills, curiosity, and genuine programming experience.
