One of our most heartbreaking trials that is ahead of us remains processing the tragic loss of homes, businesses, but even more so, the of lives of our friends, family, and community, due to Hurricane Helene.

There is an opportunity for our community to manifest its commitment towards remembrance. The former site of the Vance Monument could be an opportunity for us all to heal from the past and create a new meaning of importance and remembrance for this space.

Hurricane Helene was devastating, ripping through our city, our towns, leaving disaster in its wake. Not only did it cause unprecedented physical damage, but its most lasting impact resides in the lives taken too soon and the families forever changed. We cannot forget those who we've lost, and it is our duty to honor their memories.

Converting this site into a memorial for the victims of Hurricane Helene would not only provide a hallowed space for contemplation but also serve as a poignant reminder of the immeasurable resilience and unity our community holds.

By taking this step, we demonstrate the will of those who live here, a will to remember those we lost, and to celebrate our strength as a community.
