As a spectator at yesterday’s incredible London Marathon, I, like the rest of those watching, stood in awe as wave after wave after wave of runners passed by. If ever we needed a reminder of the extraordinary achievements to which ‘ordinary’ people can rise, surely there are few better.

I was struck too that the Marathon visibly embodies the same values as those - in theory - that our UK Honours System seeks to celebrate; namely being:

  • demonstrably fair, transparent and free from vested interest;
  • fully reflects our diverse and evolving society;
  • celebrates the people who have gone/ are going above and beyond to change our world for the better.

And to draw a further analogy, now with over £56k signatures, this petition has surpassed the 14mi marker! The (running) pace may have dropped off a little, but the determination to get to the finish line remains as strong as ever.

Please keep shouting out, cheering on and promoting this petition so that we can reach (and go beyond) the 100k of signers and help see  the change we want happen.

Thank you again!
