As members of the Canyon Hills High School community, we embarked on our journeys filled with optimism and excitement. We were ready to make a difference in our lives and those around us, eager to build meaningful connections. However, what we encountered was an administration that failed to provide adequate support for staff, students, and community members. Our teaching experiences have been tarnished; our learning opportunities diminished; even our health has been negatively impacted.

The current administration team - Erica Renfree, Nicholas Willis and YY Liew - have fostered an environment of division rather than unity. Their actions have led to disrespect towards staff and students alike, discrimination against certain groups within the school community, dishonesty in their dealings with us all and bullying tactics used to silence any dissenting voices.

We believe that every member of a school community deserves respect, compassion and fairness from its leaders. This includes equity for people of color, the LGBTQ community, neuro-diverse populations and other marginalized groups. It also includes a feeling of safety and security on campus, and continuity of teaching staff. The current climate created by this administration at Canyon Hills High School is far from this ideal. Too many passionate, talented, caring and committed teachers, staff and students are unable to weather the harsh environment any longer.  It's time for change.

At CHHS, student enrollment and graduation rates, college readiness, attendance rates and teacher/staff retention have been steadily plummeting for years. Student transfers to other schools, teacher/staff absences and student discipline for drugs and violence are on the rise.  

We call upon San Diego Unified School District to replace the current administrative team at Canyon Hills High School with individuals who will treat students, staff members and the wider school community with the care and respect they deserve.

We are the people who care about what happens to the students, staff and families at our school. Let's stand together for a better educational environment at Canyon Hills High School! Sign this petition today!
