The Issue

Dear Neighbors,

A large, branded privacy fence was recently installed at Coconut Grove Elementary School, directly facing the homes of residents along Oak Avenue. While we all appreciate the importance of student safety and privacy, the scale and design of this fence have created a significant visual impact on our neighborhood.

Instead of the greenery and charm that define our street, residents are now met with oversized logos and bold lettering. This installation disrupts the natural landscape we work to maintain.

There is no question that privacy matters. However, it does not need to come at the expense of our neighborhood’s aesthetic. There are thoughtful and effective alternatives that could achieve the same goal while preserving the beauty of our surroundings. Options such as natural hedges or greenery would provide privacy in a way that is both environmentally friendly and visually consistent with our community. As an immediate improvement, even a neutral fence covering would be far more appropriate than the current design.

We respectfully urge the school district to recognize the importance of our neighborhood’s character and to take prompt action to replace the existing fence with a more suitable solution—one that balances privacy with the charm and appeal of our residential block.

To help preserve the beauty of our block, we need your support. The school has introduced the signage as a recruitment tool on Instagram

Please consider signing this petition to request that the current branded fence be removed and replaced with an option that benefits both the school and the surrounding community.
