Replace Kendrick Lamar with a Family-Friendly Superbowl Performer

The Issue

As a devout Christian and a long-time supporter of American Football, I’m deeply distressed by the National Football League's choice for the halftime show during the Superbowl. Kendrick Lamar, the chosen performer, has repeatedly made headlines with expressions contrasting sharply with family principles and Christian faith. His lyrics often contain elements some consider to be blasphemous, causing significant discomfort for us, the viewers who like to uphold high moral and cultural standards. Furthermore, Lamar's bold promotion of his sexual identity, while personal, feels intrusive when showcased on a platform meant for entertainment open to all, including children and families. It feels out of line with the traditionally all-inclusive spirit Superbowl has been known for.

This is not a denial of Lamar's right to freedom of expression or his right to live openly with his identity. However, considering the Superbowl as a family-focused event broadcasted to an estimated 100 million viewers from diverse backgrounds (Nielsen Ratings, 2021), the entertainment choices should be considerate of this wide palette of viewers with different moral, cultural, and religious perspectives. Replacing Kendrick Lamar with a performer who embodies a more family-oriented image is a small yet significant step towards safeguarding American family values, religious sentiments, and the spirit of the Superbowl.

I request the National Football League and the Superbowl committee to reconsider their choice of the halftime performance, keeping in mind the values and faith of their global audience. Please sign this petition if you support a more family-friendly, universally appealing halftime show at the Superbowl.
